About this Print

In 1870 the Law School at Richmond College was founded. (At this time the college campus was located in downtown Richmond.) $25,000 was donated in 1890 by T. C. Williams to found the “T. C. Williams Professorship of Law” and consequently the law school was named for the donor to honor his generosity. In 1954 the original building to house the T. C. Williams School of Law was finished and the law school was moved from downtown Richmond to its present site. Additions to the building were made in 1972 and 1980. In July 1990 renovations of 48,000 square feet and additions of 61,000 square feet were begun. An objective of the redesigned building was to give it a defined entrance. This was accomplished with the addition of a courtyard. The construction and renovation resulted in five additional classrooms and a four story law library. The centerpiece of the construction, however, was the new moot courtroom with its exposed hammerbeam trusses, English oak wainscot paneling and a gallery overlooking the courtroom. The new building was dedicated on October 23, 1992.

*Artist’s Note: There is a SPIDER lurking in the spruce tree on the left, do you see it?
